We are excited and very happy to become a Sky Mountain vendor. Many years ago, when I left teaching in the public schools, my dream was to have a place where children could come and learn in their own unique ways, with support in all of the basic curriculum – reading, math and science – with the benefit of art and creativity being interlaced throughout. Club Literacy was born out of those dreams and desires, and teaching via real life, context-based learning has been a dream come true. If this is what you desire for your child, we know that you will enjoy our teaching methods at Club Literacy as a supplement to your home teaching.
At Club Literacy we offer a creative and unique environment to inspire children to become lifelong readers and writers. We focus on all components of literacy by offering a balanced literacy program. Our focus is on students becoming the best fluent readers and writers that they can become and most important of all – loving to read and write! We teach reading strategies that children can utilize and put into practice. We share the best of children’s literature and believe even the youngest children are capable of learning and caring about authors and illustrators and their processes.
We have a very focused view on handwriting skills and believe that helping your children improve their handwriting skills will have a direct effect on helping them become more “literate” and write stories and informational text with ease.
By keeping our classes small, we are able to give each student individualized attention and we are continuously assisting them to reach their own personal best potential. Our small groups allow our students to become friends and we work with all of the students on creating an environment in which they collaborate with each other and encourage each other to be the best that they can be. We love to see the support they offer each other in being creative and stretching beyond what they thought were limitations!
We do a tremendous amount of journaling, which provides the absolute perfect tool for us to individualize and tailor each student’s learning. We love to make books come alive and can often be caught enjoying a bowl of homemade porridge or a fresh loaf of bread with our current fairy tale.
Lastly, we believe strongly that every student is an artist and find that our students love to illustrate their journal stories. Our students enjoy our informal art lessons and love building an “art repertoire” which complements their reading and writing skills.
We also offer many extracurricular activities on Friday afternoons and on the weekends. This past school year we offered a series of free storytelling events called Lift Off to Literacy. These events have become quite popular and the children may bring homemade goodies to share during these events. In January we will be offering homage to the late Norman Bridwell of the beloved Clifford books as well as a special event for one of our favorite English authors: Quentin Blake, The Story of the Dancing Frog and many other wonderful books. (Mr. Blake has received a multitude of literacy awards, acknowledging his strong contributions to literature for young children.)
We offer classes for Pre-K students through fourth grade.
We hope to see you soon.
Warmest Regards,
Tracey Frank Pringle
